Do I Need a Personal Trainer?

Once considered a luxury for the rich and famous, a personal trainer is now a regular “fixture” in many homes.

Some people join gyms and fitness centers to get the recommended amount of physical exercise, but there are those who would rather avoid these very public displays and who choose to work out in the privacy of their homes.

However, many do-it-yourselfers fail to maintain the motivation necessary to continue with their exercise regimes, and seek out the guidance of a “personal trainer” in an effort to stay on course. Good idea.

Consider the help of a personal trainer if…
  • You want a personalized program – A personal trainer can design a program to help meet your health and fitness goals, making your workout safer and more effective.

  • You can’t stay motivated – As mentioned above, a personal trainer can help motivate you to achieve your goals and keep you disciplined and on track.

Personal training - a growth industry.
  • You’re a “newbie” to exercise and fitness – A personal trainer can help you focus on your goals and what you want to achieve.

  • You want to improve certain skills for specific reasons (i.e., you’re running a marathon, you want to play a sport better or improve on your technique).

  • You want to lose weight – many personal trainers can help you with both routine and dietary concerns to help you lose weight and tone your body.

  • You’re in a workout slump – A personal trainer will help to recharge your batteries and get you up and running again.

Ok, so suppose you decide that a personal trainer is for you – how do you go about choosing one? Here are several factors to consider:

  • Education - Your personal trainer should, at the very least, have completed some type of formal post-secondary education along with specific education in the field.

  • Experience – make sure he/she has worked with a number of people for at least two years – get references and check them out!

  • Certifications – these are important, along with the continuing education that most certifications require.

  • Flexibility – the ability to adapt to your specific personality and fitness/training needs.

Don’t be afraid to talk to several personal trainers before making a decision. After all, this is an investment in yourself, designed to create a better, healthier you!

How could a child benefit from chiropractic?
Regardless of our age, each of us in Springfield encounters physical, chemical and emotional stresses that exceed our ability to handle. For newborns, it could be the trauma encountered at birth. For toddlers it could be from learning to walk or ride a bike. Many of the problems we chiropractors see in adults are the result of neglected traumas from childhood.
Do nerves actually get pinched?
Chiropractors recognize two types of nerve disorders involved in vertebral subluxation complex. The least common is a pinched nerve that diminishes nerve supply to an affected organ or tissue. More common is the irritated nerve (facilitative lesion) which overexcites nerve communications to an affected organ or tissue. Chiropractic care has been shown to help with both types.
