Dr. Melissa Knoedler

Dr. Melissa Knoedler is a Springfield native and has been practicing in the area for the last 10 years. She completed her undergraduate work in Kinesiology and Chemistry at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. She then graduated from the National University of Health Sciences with a doctorate in Chiropractic.

Dr. Knoedler focuses on women’s health with a special interest in pregnancy related conditions and wellness care. She also treats neck and back pain, sports injuries, soft tissue injuries and pediatrics. She is certified in acupuncture for various ailments, including infertility. Dr. Melissa and her husband Jason currently reside in Springfield, along with their three children. The Knoedler’s enjoy being active in the community, attending their kids sporting events, and traveling when they can.


Springfield Chiropractor Dr. Peter Curtis

Dr. Peter Curtis

Dr. Peter Curtis is an Iowa native currently residing in Springfield. He has been in practice since graduating from Palmer College of Chiropractic in 2000 and joined Advanced Center for Pain & Rehab in January 2008.

Dr. Curtis brings experience from a wide variety of clinical settings including work in private practice to a multi-disciplinary clinic. He has a professional interest and post-graduate training in rehabilitation of spine related conditions, orthopedic conditions, and treatment of soft tissue injuries.

Along with chiropractic work, Dr. Curtis is certified in Acupuncture and Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization.


Springfield Licensed Physical Therapist Daniel Barber

Daniel D. Barber, Licensed Physical Therapist

Daniel D. Barber is a Springfield native and a Licensed Physical Therapist since 1996. He graduated with a Master’s Degree in Science in Physical Therapy from Des Moines Osteopathic University in 1995. Before his Physical Therapy career, he graduated from Illinois State University with a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1979 and was certified as an Athletic Trainer in 1980.

Dan is a licensed member of multiple physical therapy organizations and a member of athletic training associations as well.

Dan is married to his wife Anita, has two adopted children, Justine and Jacob, a dog named Abby, and a canary named Buddy the Bird. He is interested in high school athletics, especially in football, cooking, health and wellness, manual physical therapy, utilizing the Graston Technique for soft tissue mobilization, and listening or conversing on talk radio programs.


Springfield Physical Therapist Steve Washburn

Steve Washburn, Licensed Physical Therapist

Steve Washburn recently moved to Springfield to practice as a Physical Therapist Assistant. He graduated from Lake Land College in Mattoon, Illinois and joined Advanced Center for Pain & Rehab in 2015. He became interested in physical therapy after years of playing ice hockey landed him into therapy. As a previous PT patient, he is able to empathize with his patients while providing a knowledgeable and caring environment. His goal is to reduce pain and improve function while providing patients information to improve their overall health and wellness.

Steve is married and recently moved to Springfield to join our team. His interests include sports science, rehabilitation, and manual therapies. In his free time, he enjoys activities like kayaking, surfing, and playing hockey.


Massage Therapists

Springfield Licensed Massage Therapists

Patricia Reynolds, Kurt Schleyhan and Rena Vink

Rena Vink, Licensed Massage Therapist

Rena Vink is a native of Springfield and a dually licensed massage therapist in Illinois and Florida. In 1978, she moved to Pompano Beach, Florida where she lived for 26 years and returned to Springfield in 2003.

Intrigued with the rehabilitation of musculoskeletal system, in 1996, Rena enrolled in the Physical Therapist Assistant program at Boward Community College while working as a Physical Therapist Technician. Following PTA school, she enrolled in the Massage Therapy program at the American Institute of Massage Therapy in Ft. Lauderdale and graduated in 1998. She continued her education in massage therapy at the Upledger Institute studying Craniosacral Therapy under Dr. John Upledger.

Rena gears her practice toward prevention and correction of muscle and fascia irregularities and pain management. She is a Board Certified Massage Therapist with the NCBTMB, a member of the American Massage Therapy Association, and a Certified Fitness Instructor.

Patricia Reynolds, Licensed Massage Therapist

Patricia Reynolds previously lived in the Chicago metro area where she raised a family for 20 years, taught college classes for 14 years, and worked as an exhibiting artist for 15 years. She became a Licensed Massage Therapist when she moved to the Springfield area and has been practicing massage therapy for 13 years.

Patricia is greatly interested in addressing the issues our bodies face as we age. Her specialty is Integrative Massage as it incorporates all the techniques she has learned including neuromuscular, trigger point, sports, and oncology massage. She combines these with the physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of massage to support a holistic mind and body approach to health.

She believes everything she learns becomes part of how she practices massage.

Kurt Schleyhan, Licensed Massage Therapist

Kurt Schleyhan is a native of Springfield. He is a member of the Christian Motorcyclist Association and the For One Ministry drama group. Also, he plays the bass guitar for the gospel band Chosen Generation. In his early 20’s he was a fitness instructor as well as a competitive runner and cyclist with a desire to further his knowledge of alternative medicine. He then moved to Gainesville, Florida to further his education and lived there for five years. Kurt is a 1998 graduate of LifePath School of Massage Therapy and a professional member of the American Massage Therapy Association.

He has extensive training in CranioSacral therapy, Neuromuscular therapy, and TriggerPoint therapy. He had the opportunity to train with Dr. John E. Upledger, the founder of CranioSacral therapy. The positive experience Kurt has had with massage therapy and chiropractic care throughout his athletic career inspired him to pursue a career in body work. He is excited to be a part of the team, and to bring his experience to help patients with the healing process.
